Roto-Static Very Low Moisture (VLM) Cleaning Process

Roto-Static uses a proprietary very low moisture process that deep cleans soils, stains and odor causing residues from your carpets. Your carpets and area rugs are dry and ready for traffic in about 1 hour.

Our cleaning solutions are environmentally safe, non-toxic and leave no residue in your carpets and upholstery. Our equipment is gentle on carpets and fabrics.

VLM vs Steam Cleaning (hot water extraction)

RotoStatic Method begins with a light misting of cleaning soloution. The cleaner releases, encapsulates and negatively charges soil particles.  Carpets are gently agitated using a special machine fitted with thick cleaning pads. The cleaning pad gently scrubs the carpet to condition it's pile and further further release soils. The rotary action creates a static charge that helps the cleaning pad electrically pull soils from the carpet.

VLM cleaning is the primary method used in commercial settings because it leaves carpets cleaner, looking better, and ready for foot traffic in about an hour. Another major benefit is no cleaner is left in the carpets, so VLM cleaned carpets do not resoil quickly.

So why don't all carpet cleaners use this method? Simple - VLM cleaning requires a lot of technician training, experience, expensive equipment, and expensive cleaning solutions. Most residential services providers opt for steam cleaning becasue equipment and chemicals are less expensive and new technicians can be trained in a few hours. Steam cleaning a common term used to describe the Hot Water Extraction (HWE) method of carpet and upholstery cleaning. Despite the common name, there is no steam involved in the HWE cleaning process, just warm water which is usually 30-50 degrees Celsius once it reaches the carpet. Steam cleaning starts by saturating carpets with a warm water solution (there is no steam) delivered by a low pressure water jets. Once the carpets are wetted out, the water, detergent, and soils are vacuumed away. The equipment can be either portable or truck mounted

Most carpet cleaners use steam cleaning because it's more economical and technicians can be trained in a few hours. (If you're ambitious, you can rent steam cleaners and by chemicals for about $100 from many grocery stores and home improvement stores!)  Steam cleaning is only used for residential carpets, it's not suitable for commercial or high traffic areas.  While inexpensive, there are down sides to steam cleaning:s:  1) your carpets need 48 hours to fully dry before resuming normal foot traffic, 2) steam cleaned carpets resoil faster than bonnet cleaned carpets. .

Steam cleaners often use truck mounted systems that recycle cleaning solutions through your carpets, often through several homes a day.  RotoStatic uses steam cleaners for upholstery and for special stain removals in carpets. Our equipment operates at higher pressure than truck mounted extractors and uses 100% clean water.

Water Used None, carpets are lightly misted with a fast evaporating cleaner. Lots! A moderate clean for 1000sq' of carpet has 20 gallons of water sprayed onto the carpets.
Soil Extraction Complete Partial, water jets and gravity drive soils into carpet backing and underpad.
Dry time Approximately 1 hour Light traffic 24 hours, full traffic 48 hours
Pile rejuvination High.  friction fluffs and reorganizes carpet pile None
Resoiling Slow - soils and cleaning residue are completely removed during cleaning process.  Rapid - Soils driven into carpet backing and pad mograte back into pile. Cleaning residues left on carpet fibers release soils from feet and shoes which collect in carpets.
